Take. Action.

So. The tickets are booked. Work knows. School knows. Family and friends know. We leave the UK in August for a year of travel and adventure.

We have put into action something that we have talked and dreamed about for many years. We always knew we wanted to spend a chunk of time in our 'other' favourite place, British Columbia, and have spent every holiday we have had there with our special cousins talking about the time we will do that. Last summer was another such occasion, we went over the old ground, how would we do it, the kids are to young/old, where would we work, what about the people we leave behind at home?.. etc etc.

But, this time there was a difference. When we came home to Wales we decided it was the right time to put this plan into action. With 4 kids (10, 8, 4 and 18 mths) in tow there is always going to be someone who is too young to remember it but with our eldest racing towards starting senior school it was a now or never situation. There is never the perfect time to travel with kids. Never the right time for everyone in the family. But, if something is there, nagging you, constantly a source of debate and conversation between you, then the chances is it won't go away and needs to be actioned.

We are now on count down. 4 months to go. We have decided to grab the opportunity with both hands and do as much as we can on our way to spend 6 mths in Canada but in a slow, controlled, family friendly way. We have chosen some destinations that are familiar to us and some that aren't. We are mixing it up. We are house swapping, staying and looking up old friends, making new friends, staying with friends of friends and entering into wonderful, open world schooling and sharing communities. We want to show our kids that travel together is important, fulfilling, fun, educational, enriching, challenging, bonding and just possible.

In this on going blog we will discuss how to go about this, finances, budgeting, house swapping, world schooling and anything and everything else that comes up along the way.
