In the summer of 2016 on a trip to Vancouver to see our cousins, who we love spending time with, we wistfully discussed the 'one day' plan of spending a big chunk of time there... living, discovering and travelling in our favourite country (outside of Wales). 'Guys, you always talk about this, it'll never happen' said one of them...

There is nothing like someone you know and love pointing out that this has been something, long discussed that has never been actioned. Time for action.

We came home inspired to make this something that actually happened. Not one of those things we wished we had done when looking back. There were hurdles to get over. Work, finances, schooling, ensuring the kids were on board and then it was time to plan. Almost a year on from that conversation we will be leaving the country for 12 mths of adventure. We have decided to go the long way round taking in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand on the way. We are house swapping, staying with friends and friends of friends with a bit of Airbnb as needed and trying to home school along the way...

Not everyone wants to travel but, for us, it is something we both loved independently before meeting and is something we have tried to keep up with our kids. Longer periods of travel are often associated with the childfree life but not these days. Once we opened the can of worms and did some research we realised there are many families choosing to do things differently for an extended period of time.

We are not wanting to bleat on about it but lots of people have asked us lots of questions in this build up. There are many people out there would like to travel with kids but have let things stop them or maybe are yet to take action....

We want to share some tips, photos, blog posts, interesting articles, videos and take you with us on our journey... We left in July 2017 and returned in Sept 2018 but big things changed and life never went back to our previous normal...
